Joel Fontaine
A San Francisco native, I had the great good fortune to study Theatrical Set Design first with Eric Sinkonnen at San Francisco State, and then with Ming Cho Lee at the Yale School of Drama. I designed scenery for theater and ballet in New York, Off Broadway, Washington D.C., Minneapolis, Indianapolis, St. Louis, Seattle, Portland, San Diego and San Francisco before retiring to become a full-time father.
Recently I started applying my skills in drawing, drafting, research, and visual storytelling to pen and ink work. Often using classical architecture and mythology as a quarry, my intent is to offer clarity, compassion and quiet contemplation in my pictures.
I live in the San Francisco bay area with my wife, children, cats, a dog, and more backyard wildlife than should be allowed.
